Autism Advocacy

I have just been made aware of the statements made by Robert Kennedy about Autism. That it destroys families- they'll never pay taxes, go on a date or have a job-won't be active members of our communities. I am fuming.

I would like to invite you all to our show,"Not the Right Mom: A full Spectrum Comedy", on May 7.

The defamatory statements made by a member of our government could be detrimental to the lives of, not just autistic people, but people with all disabilities. Robert Kennedy is taking us back to a time when disabilities were completely misunderstood. Since 1973, the year the Rehabilitation Act was amended to prohibit federal agencies from discriminating on the basis of disability, our country has been climbing that hill, making people aware, and giving people with disabilities a better life. This led to the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 passing-another milestone on our climb. In light of the ignorant statements made by Robert Kennedy it is more important than ever for our communities to learn about and understand Autism.

I hope that you will all consider my invitation and help to keep the path for disabled person's rights clear and strong.
